After attending Vesper George School of Art in Boston for several years, graphic design and sign work seemed to offer a way to "make a living" while remaining independant.
I've enjoyed designing, lettering and illustrating all types of signs and spent 6 hot years in Florida lettering boats on the Gulf.
I was confronted with the evolution of the computer after 25 years in the sign trade, doing all my work freehand. With it's slicker, quicker, cheaper product, I begrudgingly came to the realization that freehand sign painters were becoming an endangered species.
It was time for a change.
Experiencing Loius Comfort Tiffany's richly textured, multi layered panels at the Morse Museum in Winter Park, Florida had a liberating effect for me. I felt that with glass the door was opening, creatively.
After a few preliminary lessons in the use of the tools involved, i have since ventured the stained glass path alone, not wanting preconceived notions to contribute to "tunnel vision".
Working in stained glass, for me is full of intrigue and suspence. Putting pieces together, secrets are hidden until the finished piece is held up, letting light determine what has been created........but, nothing being what it seems, even this is relative to the time of day.
My husband, Michael, and I are originally from New Hampshire's Lakes Region. After spending 12 years away from home, working from Minnesota to Louisiana to Florida and a multitude of places in between, we have finally moved back to our Yankee roots, making our home and studio in Ashland, New Hampshire.
